SAMPLE SIZE

This dose of knowledge describes the basic concepts that are necessary to determine the number of subjects that is needed for a medical research study design.

By using simulation scenarios, some common but crucial elements are discussed in order to interpret the sample size in superiority and noninferiority studies. The workshop ends with two exercises and the award of a Certificate.

The syllabus covers the following contents: Introduction to the sample size in conducting clinical research; clinical significance vs statistical significance, examples based on common clinical practice for sample size determination groups with categorical variables, two groups con continuous and categorical variables, case-control and cohorts’ studies, superiority results in non-inferiority studies/trials, the concept of the delta value and sample size determination in non-inferiority studies.
